MITRE Employees Receive 2007 Black Engineer of the Year Awards

McLean, Virginia, December 28, 2006

MITRE employees Bridget Blake, Dr. Charles Brooks, and Dr. Jimmie Lee Davis, Jr. have been honored with 2007 Black Engineer of the Year Awards. This national award program honors black innovators who demonstrate excellence in engineering or science, exemplary leadership in their workplaces and communities, and outstanding work as role models and mentors. The awardees will be honored at the 21st annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference in Baltimore, Md., in February 2007.


MITRE Executive Director Richard J. Byrne Awarded 2006 AFCEA Meritorious Award for Engineering

At ceremonies culminating its annual TechNet International Conference at the Washington Convention Center, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) awarded its prestigious 2006 AFCEA Meritorious Award for Engineering to Richard J. Byrne.


MITRE Wins Massachusetts Statewide Safety Award

The MITRE Corporation has received a Statewide Safety Award from the Massachusetts Safety Council, an accredited chapter of the National Safety Council. The Massachusetts Safety Council is a not-for-profit organization that encourages safety, health, and environmental policies designed to prevent and mitigate injuries, illnesses, and economic losses.


MITRE Engineer Receives Hobart Newell Award

Bedford, Massachusetts, June 26, 2006

The MITRE Corporation's Dr. Christopher Hegarty, director for spectrum management, recently received Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Hobart Newell Award for his contributions toward the use of the global positioning system (GPS) for civil aviation. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Electrical and Computer Engineering (WPI ECE) department presents the award each year to honor the outstanding professional contributions of one of its graduates. The award is named for Professor Hobart Newell, a 1918 WPI graduate and professor who was a leader in the early telecommunications revolution.


MITRE Named to the "Best Places to Work in IT" List for Second Year in a Row

International Data Group's Computerworld has named The MITRE Corporation to its "Best Places to Work in IT" list for the second year in a row. MITRE ranked eighth on the list of 100 companies. Selection is based on a comprehensive survey of each organization's benefits, diversity, career development, training, and retention, as well as feedback from employees.


MITRE Receives Business Recycling Excellence Award

The MITRE Corporation's recycling program has been honored with a 2006 Fairfax County Business Recycling Excellence Award. The award recognizes businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations in Fairfax County, Va., that implement innovative waste reduction, recycling, and reuse programs.


MITRE Department Head Awarded George Mason University's Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award

The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce that Dr. Philip Barry, head of MITRE's Information Discovery and Understanding Department, has received an Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award from the Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering at George Mason University (GMU).


MITRE Named a Health & Wellness Trailblazer by the Alliance for Workplace Excellence

The MITRE Corporation has received a 2006 Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a Rockville, Md.-based nonprofit organization working to position workplace excellence as a competitive advantage in the business community. The newly created award recognizes employers that demonstrate exemplary commitment to the physical and mental health of their workforce. MITRE was also awarded the Alliance's Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval for the third year in a row.


MITRE Engineer Honored at Network-Centric Warfare Awards

McLean, Virginia, March 3, 2006

The MITRE Corporation congratulates Fred Stein, a senior principal engineer for network-centric warfare in MITRE's Army Systems and Technology department, on being one of two recipients of the first Arthur K. Cebrowski Award. Given to recognize individual excellence in the development of network-centric warfare, the award is named in honor of the late Arthur K. Cebrowski, retired Vice Admiral of the U.S. Navy, who is widely considered the originator of the network-centric warfare concept.


MITRE Employee Honored as a 2006 Black Engineer of the Year

The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce that Thomas Ervin, a principal engineer with the Cyber Analysis and Investigation Department in MITRE's Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems, has been named a 2006 Black Engineer of the Year in the Special Recognition category.


MITRE Director Presented with Rare FAA Alaska Regional Visionary Award

The MITRE Corporation congratulates David J. (Jim) Chadwick, who recently retired from his position as a director in MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD), on being awarded the Federal Aviation Administration's Alaska Regional Visionary Award. Not an annual award, the Alaska Regional Visionary Award is given only when an individual has contributed to a substantive improvement in the safety, efficiency, and reliability of Alaskan aviation.


MITRE's Dr. Joseph Mitola Awarded Office of Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service

Dr. Joseph Mitola III, consulting scientist for The MITRE Corporation, recently received the Medal for Exceptional Public Service from the Office of the Secretary of Defense. The award was presented to Dr. Mitola for "outstanding achievement" during three years of service as Special Assistant to the Director, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).


MITRE Named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work for" List For Fifth Year in a Row
