Awards and Recognition 2008 MITRE Selected as one of Glassdoor.com's 50 Best Places to Work Bedford, Massachusetts, McLean, Virginia, December 30, 2008 Glassdoor.com has named The MITRE Corporation to its 50 Best Places to Work list. MITRE ranked number 24 on the career and workplace site's inaugural list of the top U.S. companies. The Employees' Choice Award winners were selected from more than 11,000 companies reviewed by nearly 75,000 employees who completed a 20-question survey. MITRE's General Counsel Honored for Service McLean, Virginia, December 10, 2008 Mr. Sol Glasner, MITRE's vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary, recently received the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association's (WMACCA) Corporate Counsel Career Achievement Award. WMACCA, the largest regional bar association for in-house counsel, has given the award only twice before in its 27-year history. MITRE Employees Receive National Women of Color Technology Awards McLean, Virginia, November 24, 2008 Five MITRE employees were recognized for their leadership and accomplishments in the technology field at the 13th annual National Women of Color STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Conference held in Dallas, Texas, from October 23-25. Belinda Edwards, Pearl Khuo, Gabriela Marani, and Annette Pence were named 2008 Technology All Stars. Michèle Causey was named a Technology Rising Star. MITRE Director Honored for Advancing Diversity in Engineering and Science McLean, Virginia, October 17, 2008 Mr. William D. Albright, Jr., director of Quality of Work Life and Benefits at MITRE, has received the National GEM Consortium's (Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science) 2008 Employer of the Year award for his long-standing personal and professional efforts to increase diverse representation in the fields of science and engineering. MITRE Named Health at Work Winner Bedford, Massachusetts, McLean, Virginia, October 3, 2008 The MITRE Corporation has received the Health at Work Award from the ComPsych Corporation, the world's largest provider of employee assistance programs (EAPs). MITRE was named the Gold winner in the category for companies with 2,500 to 10,000 employees. Recipients were selected based on the comprehensiveness of their wellness program, promotion, delivery, participation rates, and results achieved. MITRE Wins Air Force Association's Theodore von Karman Award Bedford, Massachusetts, July 28, 2008 The MITRE Corporation has won the Air Force Association's (AFA's) 2008 Theodore von Karman Award. The announcement was made in a letter from AFA chairman of the board Robert E. "Bob" Largent to Robert Behler, senior vice president and deputy general manager of MITRE's Command and Control Center. The award is given in recognition of "...the most outstanding contribution in the field of engineering and science." MITRE On Team That Receives Collier Trophy McLean, Virginia, July 15, 2008 The Collier Trophy was established in 1910 by Robert J. Collier, a magazine publisher and one-time president of the Aero Club of America, which issued the first pilot licenses in the U.S. It is presented annually for "the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles." MITRE, as part of an ADS-B team of 26 public and private sector groups, was selected for the 2007 award for its efforts in conceptualizing, developing, and implementing a fundamental, so-called "cornerstone capability" for the future of the national airspace system. Other recipients of the award include the FAA, NASA, UPS, Garmin Ltd., Lockheed Martin, and the Airline Pilots Association. MITRE Named to "Best Places to Work in IT" List for Fourth Consecutive Year Bedford, Massachusetts, McLean, Virginia, July 8, 2008 International Data Group's Computerworld has named The MITRE Corporation to its annual list of "Best Places to Work in IT" for the fourth year in a row. MITRE ranked fourth overall out of the 100 companies selected, placing the not-for-profit organization in the list's coveted top five spots. MITRE received additional recognition for training (ranked fourth) and retention (ranked tenth). MITRE Receives Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award Bedford, Massachusetts, July 8, 2008 The MITRE Corporation's site in Hanover, Md., has received the Defense Security Service's (DSS) 2008 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award. Established in 1966 in honor of Air Force Colonel James S. Cogswell, the first chief of industrial security for the U.S. Department of Defense, the award recognizes overall excellence in maintaining a classified environment. Only 23 of the nation's 12,000 defense contractors subject to annual inspection were presented with this year's award. MITRE Receives Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award for Third Consecutive Year McLean, Virginia, June 19, 2008 The MITRE Corporation received the 2008 Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence (AWE) for the third year in a row. One of 19 metro Washington, D.C., companies to receive the award, MITRE was recognized for its commitment to encouraging overall employee health through innovative programs such as flexible work schedules and educational sessions to support a healthy lifestyle. "It's gratifying to receive this recognition from the community," said Bill Albright, MITRE's director of Quality Work Life and Benefits. "We will continue to provide the services and programs that make MITRE one of the healthiest of places to work." More than 600 area business leaders attended AWE's annual awards luncheon on June 19 in Bethesda, Md. AWE is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping companies in the greater Washington, D.C., area become great places to work. The Trailblazer Award is a partnership between AWE and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. MITRE Presented with Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service McLean, Virginia, June 11, 2008 In a ceremony held recently to celebrate MITRE's 50th anniversary, the Honorable John Grimes, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration (ASD NII)/Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (CIO), presented MITRE with the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. MITRE Named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List for Seventh Consecutive Year Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia, January 23, 2008 The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce that it ranked number 42 on FORTUNE's 2008 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." The designation marks MITRE's seventh consecutive year on the magazine's annual list and represents a jump from number 60 in 2007. Among medium-sized companies, MITRE ranked 13. The company was also named number six out of the top ten businesses for encouraging employee work/life balance. MITRE Engineer Honored for Achievements in Airborne Collision Avoidance McLean, Virginia, January 8, 2008 Mr. Andrew Zeitlin, D.Sc., senior principal engineer in The MITRE Corporation's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD), has received the 2007 Dr. John C. Ruth Digital Avionics Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
