MITRE Named to Glassdoor.com's 50 Best Places to Work List

December 2011

For the fourth year in a row, The MITRE Corporation has been named to Glassdoor.com's Employees' Choice list of the 50 Best Places to Work. This year MITRE ranked number 4, up from number 12 last year, on the career and workplace site's list of the top U.S. companies.


MITRE Wins Second MAKE Award

November 2011

For the second time, MITRE's knowledge management successes have earned the corporation a North American Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) award, which recognizes organizations for exceptional knowledge management and knowledge sharing practices. In addition to MITRE, nine other organizations received this year's award, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and IBM. Teleos, an independent knowledge management and intellectual capital research company, announced the 2011 award.


MITRE Employees Honored for Achievements in STEM

Five employees of The MITRE Corporation were recently recognized for their technical and leadership accomplishments at the 16th annual Women of Color STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Conference held in Dallas from November 3-5. Miyoun (Mimi) Dobbs received the Managerial Leadership-Industry award; Christine Brown, Emilie Chow, and Dr. Pamela Thornton were named Technology All Stars; and Chun Ma was named a Technology Rising Star.


MITRE Named to Boston Globe's 2011 Top Places to Work List

The MITRE Corporation has been named one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts in the Boston Globe's fourth annual employee survey. This year MITRE was ranked number 5 on the overall list of the best large companies (those with 1,000 or more employees).


MITRE, Providakes Honored by Leading Women MASS

November 2011

The MITRE Corporation and George Providakes, chief engineer of MITRE's Command and Control Center, were recently honored with Leading Women to the Top Awards, which recognize local companies with initiatives, networks, or groups that have a measurable impact on the advancement of female employees. The awards, announced in October, were presented at a dinner hosted by Leading Women MASS on Nov. 10. MITRE received the award in the Large Business Category for companies with 500 or more employees; Providakes was chosen to receive a new award, Champion of the Year.


MITRE's Lisa Tompkins Wins Heroines in Technology Award

October 2011

MITRE principal systems engineer and senior healthcare analyst in MITRE's Center for Transforming Health, Lisa Tompkins received the 2011 Heroines in Technology Award. The honor, jointly given by the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the March of Dimes, recognizes women in the technology industry, from Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, who demonstrate volunteerism and showcase their expertise in the technology sector to benefit communities around them. It was presented at a black-tie gala on October 21 at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Va.


MITRE Named to InformationWeek 500 List of Innovative Business Technology Organizations

The MITRE Corporation has announced that it made this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual ranking of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. MITRE was honored for its recently upgraded, highly customizable intranet.


IDG's Computerworld Names MITRE a "Best Place to Work in IT" for Seventh Straight Year

June 2011

IDG's Computerworld has selected The MITRE Corporation as one of the country's "100 Best Places to Work in IT" for the seventh year in a row. The company ranked 54 overall and 14 in the category of medium-size companies on the 2011 list of the top work environments for technology professionals. MITRE was also named the number three company overall for training.


MITRE Named Top 25 Company for Work-Life Balance

May 2011

MITRE has been selected as one of the top 25 companies for work-life balance on a list compiled by the career site Glassdoor.com. The list, Glassdoor.com's first ranking of companies that excel in providing work-life balance, was compiled based on employee feedback shared between April 2010 and March 2011. Among other workplace attributes, employees were asked to rate management's support in permitting time off when they thought it necessary and employer support in balancing between work life and personal life.


MITRE Honored by Alliance for Workplace Excellence

May 2011

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence (AWE) announced May 2 that MITRE was named to its 2011 Excellent Workplaces and Health and Wellness Trailblazers lists. The AWE has recognized the Washington, D.C. areas best places to work for the past 12 years. MITRE was among 57 U.S. companies named as Excellent Workplaces and 38 U.S. companies named as Health and Wellness Trailblazers. The winning companies represent more than 1 million employees from organizations of all sizes and in all sectors—private, public and non-profit. Winning companies undergo an assessment process led by an independent review panel of professionals in business, industrial and organizational psychology and human resources.


MITRE Receives American Psychological Association's Healthy Workplace Award

March 2011

The American Psychological Association (APA) has recognized The MITRE Corporation with its 2011 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. One of eight North American employers to receive the award this year, MITRE won in the APA's Large Not-for-Profit category.


MITRE's Gary Gagnon Elected to Cyber Committee of AFCEA International

March 2011

Gary Gagnon, MITRE vice president and corporate director of cyber security, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Cyber Committee of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International.


Computerworld Honors Joel Jacobs as a Premier 100 IT Leader

February 2011

IDG's Computerworld has named Joel Jacobs, vice president and chief information officer of The MITRE Corporation, a 2011 Premier 100 IT Leader. This year's Premier 100 spotlights leaders from both the technical and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative solutions to business challenges, and effectively managed IT strategies.


MITRE Employees Honored at Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference

February 2011

Five employees from The MITRE Corporation received awards at the 25th annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Global Competitiveness Conference held in Washington, D.C., from February 17-19.


MITRE Named to Computerworld "Best Privacy Advisers of 2010" List (Computerworld)

February 2011

Computerworld magazine announced Feb. 3 that The MITRE Corporation has been named to its annual list of top privacy advisors. Companies are ranked based on responses to a survey carried out for the magazine by a third-party researcher. Respondents were executives in large corporations and government agencies with data privacy responsibilities.


FORTUNE Names MITRE a "Best Company to Work For" 10 Years in a Row

FORTUNE magazine has named The MITRE Corporation to its 2011 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." This is the 10th consecutive year MITRE has been recognized as one of the country's top employers, joining a small group of companies with this distinction.


MITRE's Handshake Gets Intranet Innovation Gold Award

January 2011

Handshake, MITRE's partner-accessible social network application, was recently named a Gold winner of the international Intranet Innovation Awards. Calling Handshake "a social network intranet application with a difference," the award citation noted that the capability allows MITRE employees to connect not only to one another, but to external partners. Presented since 2007 by the consulting firm Step Two Designs, the annual Intranet Innovation Awards recognize new and innovative approaches to the design, enhancement, and delivery of intranets. Rather than awarding intranets as a whole, the awards focus on individual intranet improvements, with a goal of sharing ideas and increasing the pace of innovation across intranets worldwide.
