Professionally Prominent Activities One way to learn about MITRE and CEM is to see the expertise of our staff in action. Our Professionally Prominent program features CEM staff that have recently participated in events or have had articles published. Highlights include: June 2006 Beth Halley presented at the FCW Government Health IT Conference at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC, on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Beth presented "HIT Standards and Policy". Dr. Carolyn Padovano was the invited Keynote Speaker at an Annual National Meeting for the Roy Adaptation Association Conference [Boston College, UCLA, Mount Saint Mary College] in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Dr. Paul Lawrence is quoted in the May/June issue of Government Leader in the article "Delicate Balance." The article describes the range of relationships between political appointees and careerists in government. Paul's quote is taken from an essay he wrote in the book he co-edited in 2005, Learning the Ropes: Insights for Political Appointees. View the article. Dr. Alfred Brandstein recently had his oral history published in the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) 40th Anniversary Collection. It is sponsored by the Services, OSD and JCS. This collection is being made available at their 74th symposium. The symposia, which are classified, are often attended by 2,000-3,000 people. Alfred is a former Director and recipient of their award for long-term technical achievement.
