Dr. Robert A. Mikelskas Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Previously at MITRE, Dr. Mikelskas managed and contributed technically to a wide variety of programs for the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and other national security organizations. From 2001 through 2007, he served as vice president for MITRE's Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems (CIIS) in the Department of Defense Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence Federally Funded Research and Development Center (DoD C3I FFRDC). He was responsible for developing the strategy for the Center and for overseeing the execution of programs in advanced intelligence and information systems. These programs support numerous sponsors, including the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, and national security agencies. Prior to joining MITRE, Dr. Mikelskas worked at General Electric Information Services Company, where he was responsible for the information security of a globally distributed network and information system. He was also an adjunct faculty member of the G.W. Whiting School of Engineering of the Johns Hopkins University, where he taught graduate courses in computer science. At the request of the director of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), Dr. Mikelskas served as a member of the NIMA Forum, an advisory group looking into the future of imagery exploitation. He also served on a Future Imagery Architecture Independent Review Team for the Department of Defense. He is a member of the Intelligence Community's Measurement and Signatures Intelligence Technology Advisory Panel. Dr. Mikelskas participates in the Overhauling Counterproliferation Workshops sponsored by the Preventive Defense Project, a research collaboration of Stanford and Harvard Universities. He was a member of a senior review group that provided recommendations on the future strategy for the sharing of intelligence information among NATO member countries. He was a member of the 2007 Defense Science Board Summer Study Panel on the future of war. In addition to participating in the Board of Directors of the Object Management Group, Dr. Mikelskas is a member of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, the National Military Intelligence Association, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the IEEE Computer Society. Dr. Mikelskas graduated magna cum laude from Fairfield University, where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He earned a doctorate in computer science from the Pennsylvania State University.
