Work History

1981 - present: The MITRE Corporation

1998 - present: Director, Information Technology Center (G060)

Responsible for the technical leadership and management of one of MITRE's technology centers. Ms. Gravallese leads a team of over 200 information technologists supporting a diverse set of sponsor programs and internal research and development. A significant focus of our work program is the Intelligence Community. Expertise across the technology center lies in the areas of knowledge & information management, web technology, geospatial systems engineering, information fusion, natural language processing, advanced instructional environments, collaborative computing, object and component technology, software reverse engineering, and data mining.

1996 - 1998: Director, Open Systems Center (G050, W033)

Assumed leadership of the Open Systems Center, a technology center which integrated across sponsor programs in both our military C3 and Intelligence centers with expertise in knowledge management systems, services, and supporting technologies. In addition to these responsibilities, Ms. Gravallese held the position of Associate Technical Director for the Commands, Technology, and Intelligence Integration division with the Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems. She was a member of a team which had the responsibility for directing MITRE's site support to the Unified and Specified Commands across the world; as well as MITRE's technical support to joint military and intelligence agencies.

1981 - 1996: Manager of Technology Programs (W030)

With over 15 years of experience in C3I information systems engineering, Ms. Gravallese contributed to a variety of Defense and Intelligence projects as both a systems engineer and manager. She held the position of Department Head from 1991 - 1996, leading a team of advanced information technology engineers and computer scientists. Earlier career work at MITRE included development of engineering and architectural migration plans for the National Military Command System and a benchmark prototypical development effort for the Crisis Management ADP System for the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. In addition, she led the team in the development and implementation of the web-based intranet for the collateral military and intelligence communities, called Intelink-S.

Corporate involvement: Ms. Gravallese is a member of the Information Technology Team, a team established by MITRE's President and CEO with the charter to direct advancements in innovative information technology for MITRE and its sponsors. Other activities include membership in MITRE's Information Policy Committee, Requirement and Process Review Board, and most recently, the Performance Management Advisory Committee.

1980-1981: The Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation Research Center

As a graduate student at the University of Virginia, Ms. Gravallese worked on research pertaining to the optimization of traffic flow in congested urban areas.

Education

Ms. Gravallese holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Civil/Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia, 1981.

Career Activities

Ms. Gravallese continues to be involved in a variety of academic, industry, and government fora, authoring articles and presentations on topics such as the impact of web technology on the intelligence and business communities, the challenges of COTS integration, and collaborative environments in military operations. She is currently involved in research on enterprise knowledge management.
