Project Showcase

Overview

On this page we showcase some of the ITC's major projects for your convenience.

Spatio-Temporal Information Extraction and Reasoning from Natural Language.
The project has developed an annotation scheme called SpatialML for marking up and geo-coding references to places in natural language. SpatialML is part of an emerging standard called ISO-Space. The SpatialML tool distribution includes the Callisto annotation editor task module and the MIPLACE automatic tagger, which is an open-source tool that can be integrated with external gazetteers to geo-code places at an accuracy of 93%, by using a statistical algorithm that is trained on available human-tagged corpora.

GIS demo

GIS Demonstration Center. The Information Technology Center (G060) GIS Center of Excellence includes the G060 GIS Demonstration Center. To date, the project team has stood up an ARC Spatial Data Engine (SDE) database server, populated it with some 200+ gigabytes of worldwide data, and published it via an ARC Internet Map Server (IMS). The data are being used to support internal investigations, such as the ESL Labs's Next Generation Geospatial Workstation investigation, and sponsored work, including the GCCS WEBCO and Lightweight Collaborative Whiteboard (LCW) projects. The group has stood up a MetaCarta Geospatial Text Search and Geotagging service as well as a Keyhole Fusion Server.

Blueprint

Information Operations Planning Tools (Blueprint). The Blueprint project advances the state of the art in integration of intelligence data with simulation models to support planning of information operations (IO) activities. While existing data sources emphasize kinematic means for achieving a mission goal, IO techniques are being recognized as an essential weapon. The project applies database, distributed systems, embedded training, and knowledge management technologies.
