Experimentation is a way of introducing exciting new tools and capabilities to our military forces. The Multimedia and Collaboration Department (G061) has been involved with providing collaboration engineering support to the Department of Defense and various intelligence agency experiments and pilots since the introduction of the Collaborative Virtual Workspace (CVW) almost 10 years ago. Recent experimentation efforts have focused on lightweight communications for tactical field use, translingual instant messaging, cross boundary collaboration and chat extensions (such as "bots") designed to reduce the cognitive load on the operators.
