Participate in Aviation Research
The MITRE Corporation’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) is seeking aviation professionals to assess new technology and procedures along with roles and responsibilities through various research simulations. As the FAA’s federally funded research and development center, we conduct research across all segments of aviation, including Air Traffic Control, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), General Aviation, Business Aviation, and Transport Operations. In the future, we may conduct research into commercial space operations as well as other modes of transportation.
CAASD’s research laboratories have tower, terminal, and en-route simulators, as well as several flight decks and UAS simulation platforms. We conduct research across a range of aviation domains. The operations utilized during a particular simulation vary from study to study and may include taxi, departure, en-route, and arrival procedures.
The typical evaluation requires about four hours to complete, but some research may require longer or shorter time commitments. CAASD’s simulation facility is located in McLean, Virginia (suburban Washington, D.C.) but evaluations are sometimes conducted at other research facilities or online.
