Threaded Tours of the Technology Symposium

Several guided tours have been assembled to direct your visit to MITRE's 2005 Technology Symposium.

Our research in the Enterprise Information Sharing thread addresses technical issues in
Information Assurance (e.g., new models of protection and trust management), Information
Management
(e.g., new ways to capture and discover information), Enterprise Architectures (e.g., new ways to organize to support sharing), and Computing and Services (e.g., new ways to organize the task of building the application and its use over the widest range of applications). Seven projects address various aspects of the Enterprise Information Sharing challenge. Download [PDF 54 KB]

Our research in the Human Decision Making thread addresses new technologies and processes that support individual decision making and team collaboration in the C2 environment, and emerging tools directly related to decision making. Seven projects have been highlighted that address challenges associated with Human Decision Making. Download [PDF 56KB]

Our research in the Network-Based Airborne Tactical C2&ISR thread addresses key technical issues related to transitioning from stovepiped nodes interfacing through tactical data links to fully integrated Net-centric components of a C2C Enterprise. Key relevant focus areas highlighted in this thread include: Airborne Network Technologies, Netted Sensors, ISR Information Fusion, and Service-Oriented C2ISR Architectures. Download [PDF 59KB]

Net Centric Operations and Integration—the ESC Strategic Technical Plan provides a technical vision that will guide programs in implementing a wide variety of C4ISR systems to achieve the promises of netcentric operations. MITRE's technology program provides a vehicle for discovery and discussion of innovative capabilities in collaboration with our sponsors to achieve the net centric vision. The NCOI Wing has identified three key "net centric" themes:

Get Connected
Share Information
Protect the Network

Although there are many interesting research projects underway this year, we have highlighted a few here in this tour that are key to achieve the net centric operations vision. These research projects enable MITRE and its sponsors to understand technology needed for the future. Download [PDF 47KB]

Our research in the Network Centricity thread involves having reliable network constructs – so networks have to be robust and they have to have architectures that lend themselves to being robust. Not only in static form, but also if they are to serve mobile nets, in particular mobile nets in challenging environments. This Robustness in a Network Centric Environment thread addresses technical issues in Communications and Networks (e.g., new models of protection and trust management), Computing and Software (e.g., new ways to capture and discover information), Enterprise Architectures (e.g., new ways to organize to support sharing), and Computing and Services (e.g., new ways to organize the task of building the application and its use over the widest range of applications). Six projects address various aspects of the Network Centricity challenge. Download [PDF 56KB]

Our research in the Scalable Enterprise Architectures thread addresses how to construct enterprise systems supporting the war-fighter that are scalable and sustainable over the long term deployment of the system. The thread brings together technology from Enterprise Architectures (e.g., new ways to construct scalable architectures), Information Management (e.g., new ways to organize the information so that its interaction and display can scale), Information Assurance (e.g., how can the enterprise be visualized), and Computers and Software (e.g. new ways to organize the task of building the application and see it used over the widest range of applications). Seven projects address various aspects of the Scalable Enterprise Architectures challenge. Download [PDF 51KB]

Our research in the Sensors & Exploitation thread addresses technical issues in Intelligent Information Processing (e.g., new technologies, tools, and processes that support the discovery, processing, exploitation, and dissemination of information and knowledge) and Sensors and Environment (e.g., new processing and exploitation techniques for sensor data). Eight projects have been highlighted that address challenges associated with Sensors & Exploitation. Download [PDF 49KB]
