MITRE in the News - 1999 Boston Globe The December 1, 1999 edition features a story on MITRE's CVE initiative: "Handle on Hacker; Bedford, Mass-Based Firm Attempts to Increase Software Security." The story was reprinted in the December 6, 1999 issue of the Chicago Tribune. Newsday The December 1, 1999 issue of this Long Island newspaper quotes MITRE's Y2K coordinator Bob Martin in an article reviewing computer glitches coinciding with the beginning of the millennium: "Experts Expect Routine Problems." New York Times In the November 1, 1999 issues, Principal Staff James Ellenbogen is quoted in an article on molecular electronics titled: "Computer Scientists are Poised for Revolution on a Tiny Scale." Mass High Tech In the October 18, 1999 issue, Vice President Louis Metzger is interviewed in an article titled "Movers and Innovators: Answering the Scientific Call-to-Arms," which focuses on Metzger's selection for the position of Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force. American Shipper An article in the October 1, 1999 issue, titled "Customs Maps Out Its Digital Future," describes the extensive new computer system that MITRE will help U.S. Customs to develop. Special Programs Director Mike Blom is interviewed with U.S. Customs officials on the modernization process. Network World The October 1 issue includes the article "New Dictionary Defines Cyber Terrorism," which describes the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures directory created by MITRE as a tool to help computer security professionals identify and counter cyber intrusions. Avaition Week and Space Technology In the September 27, 1999, issue, Senior Vice President and General Manager Amr ElSawy is quoted in an article on the modernization of the FAA's air traffic control system.
