Julie Bowen Appointed MITRE Vice President and General Counsel

MCLEAN, Va., February 4, 2014—The MITRE Corporation has appointed Julie Bowen vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Bowen directs an in-house legal team that advises MITRE's leadership on all legal matters including cybersecurity, contracting, intellectual property, healthcare, real estate and national security. She also oversees MITRE's Government Relations Department as it tracks legislation, regulations, and policies that relate to MITRE work programs.

Bowen joined MITRE in 2006 as associate general counsel and is an expert in cybersecurity and intellectual property law. As part of her duties, she oversaw MITRE's Technology Transfer Office—guiding policies and practices in support of transferring MITRE-developed technologies to the public sector through patents and licensing. Since 2008, MITRE has implemented more than 250 tech­nology licenses and received more than 60 patents. Previously, she held several senior legal positions in healthcare software services, technology, and finance.

Bowen graduated from Catholic University where she received her B.A. and J.D. She is admitted to the bars of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.
