| MITRE Honored for Its Outstanding Employee Programs FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, November 16, 2000 — The not-for-profit MITRE Corporation today received the Northern Virginia Family Service's Special Achievement Award for demonstrating leadership in creating a family-friendly workplace for its employees. Former WJLA news host Paul Berry made the award presentation at the annual CARE (Companies as Responsive Employers) Awards breakfast this morning. The Northern Virginia Family Service organization established the CARE Awards in 1992 to recognize leaders in the growing movement to create better work-life environments. The award review committee consists of business leaders, human resource professionals and former CARE winners. The committee was impressed with the range of MITRE's personal and professional development programs, particularly the various educational opportunities if offers along with financial assistance, and the flexibility it gives employees to balance their work and family life. Last year's Special Achievement Award went to Fannie Mae. Mr. William Albright, Jr., the Director of MITRE's Human Resources Quality of Work Life Division, said his division's responsibility was precisely to enhance the work environment for employees. "We're excited and delighted to receive this recognition for our continuing efforts to attract and retain quality people, and to create the kind of workplace atmosphere in which they can be productive." Earlier this month the Massachusetts Psychological Association presented MITRE with its Healthy Workplace Award for creating a superior work environment for its employees. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is an independent, not-for-profit systems engineering firm, is engaged in scientific and technical activities in the national interest. The corporation manages Federally Funded Research and Development Centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Internal Revenue Service, and has primary offices in Bedford, Mass., and Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia Family Service is a private, non-profit service organization that has served families of Northern Virginia since 1924.
