| MITRE Elects New President and CEO FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher Bedford, Massachusetts, March 15, 2000 — Dr. James Schlesinger, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The MITRE Corporation, announced today the election of Martin Faga as President and CEO. Faga will assume the office about May 1, upon the retirement of Victor DeMarines who will continue as a member of the MITRE Board. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is an independent, not-for profit company working in the public interest that provides technical support to the government. MITRE operates Federally Funded Research and Development Centers, providing systems engineering and integration for the Defense Department, systems research and development for the Federal Aviation Administration, and systems engineering for the Internal Revenue Service. The company employs approximately 4,000 technical and support staff at its offices in Bedford, MA, and Northern Virginia, and at more than 60 sites throughout the world. Mr. Faga joined MITRE in 1993 as Vice President of MITRE's Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems. He later served as Senior Vice President and General Manager and, since 1998, as Executive Vice President. Prior to joining MITRE, he served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Space) and as Director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Earlier, he was a staff member for the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives. Mr. Faga grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and graduated from Lehigh University with bachelor and masters degrees in electrical engineering.
