Bedford, Massachusetts, August 15, 2001 — The MITRE Corporation has received the prestigious CIO-100 Award from IDG's CIO magazine. The 2001 CIO-100 recognizes organizations around the world that excel in positive business performance through innovative practices and products.

"In order to survive in the competitive business world, companies rely on innovative ideas and development of those ideas into sound business processes," said Abbie Lundberg, Editor in Chief, CIO magazine. "Honorees of this year's CIO-100 have done just that and are being recognized for their ingenuity and success."

MITRE's nomination focused on its Innovation Team (I-Team), a group of senior information technology professionals who provide visionary thinking and innovative design to lead change within business practices, including use of technology and customer relations. The I-Team is accountable for MITRE's IT-related resources, systems, processes, and activities. The group also sets MITRE's direction for implementing state-of-the-art information technologies and enhances the company's reputation in the information technology community.

Senior Vice President for Information and Technology David Lehman described the CIO-100 Award as confirming MITRE's IT achievements, which have been and continue to be focused on by the I-Team. He said, "The I-Team facilitates a dialog among members and between the team and the many constituencies in MITRE. This results in discussions that range across the company and ultimately lead to IT solutions that have broad utility, appeal and buy-in."

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national technology resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the DOD, the FAA and the IRS, with principal locations in Bedford, MA, and Northern Virginia.
