McLean, Virginia, April 4, 2001 — MITRE Chairman of the Board James Schlesinger and President and Chief Executive Officer Martin Faga have announced the promotion of Alfred Grasso to senior vice president and general manager of the Washington Center for Command, Control, and Communications (C3). MITRE's Washington C3 Center is part of the federally funded research and development center operated by MITRE for the Department of Defense.

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is an independent, not-for-profit company that provides technical support to the government. Grasso will be based at the company's offices in Reston, VA.

Grasso was formerly chief information officer at MITRE, in charge of infrastructure and information resources. Prior to that, he served as technical director of MITRE's Battlefield Systems Division and leader of the corporation's Fort Monmouth, NJ site, where he directed a broad range of programs, including MITRE's support to the Army's "Force XXI" battlefield digitization campaign.

Grasso holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a master of science degree in computer science from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is also a graduate of the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
