| Elizabeth Keefer Appointed to MITRE Corporation Board of Trustees FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher Bedford, Massachusetts, November 1, 2001 — MITRE Chairman of the Board James Schlesinger and President and CEO Marty Faga are pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth J. Keefer to the MITRE Board of Trustees. Since 1997, Keefer has served as the general counsel of Columbia University in New York. She began her legal career in Washington, D.C., as an antitrust lawyer first for the Federal Trade Commission and later at a law firm. In 1982, she joined the U.S. Department of State as an attorney in the office of the Legal Adviser. From 1989 to 1992, she served as deputy undersecretary of the Air Force for international affairs. In this position, she oversaw the implementation of the Air Force's foreign military sales and assistance programs, foreign officer exchange and training programs, and technology transfer determinations. In 1992, she returned to private law practice as a partner at Hughes, Hubbard & Reed, an international law firm. During 1995-97, she served as general counsel at Teledyne, Inc. Keefer is a 1971 cum laude graduate of Barnard College, and received her juris doctor (with honors) from George Washington University in 1977. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
