| Partnership for Public Warning Board Members Announced FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, January 31, 2002 — The Partnership for Public Warning (PPW) announced yesterday the appointment of its board of trustees. The PPW (www.PartnershipForPublicWarning.org) is a new public-private partnership that is bringing the nation's top emergency warning experts together to resolve national warning message standards, protocols and priorities. The goal is to assure the right information is delivered in a timely manner to people at risk from disasters, technological accidents and acts of terrorism. As the new organization is taking shape, PPW is engaged in discussion with key federal agencies in the emergency warning community to ensure the inclusion of all stakeholders. "We've been fortunate to attract a dynamic group of public-spirited and talented leaders from the corporate world, emergency management and academia," Board Chairman Peter Ward reflected. "We need the right mix of people, processes and technologies to foster the designing, building and management of emergency warning systems that save lives and protect property." "We've been on the fast track ever since our first conference hosted by MITRE last November," reflected Ward. "Our partnership was created following a unanimous supporting vote by more than 120 conference attendees who are leaders in the emergency warning community. Less than two months later, the PPW was incorporated as the 'Partnership for Public Warning Institute.' We are grateful to MITRE for their public interest support in getting us started."
