McLean, Va., March 9, 2004 — The MITRE Corporation was presented with the Maryland Work-Life Alliance's "Workplace Excellence" Seal of Approval in a ceremony held recently at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center in College Park, Md. According to the Alliance, this Seal of Approval recognizes visionary employers that view work/life initiatives, such as health and wellness programs and flexible work plans, as a strategic business imperative. MITRE was one of 56 Maryland employers to be recognized.

According to Lindsay Conn, executive director of the Maryland Work-Life Alliance, "These leaders are paving the way to building workplaces where employees are able to achieve success in all aspects of their professional and personal lives while serving the business bottom-line."

"We're delighted to receive this honor that recognizes our commitment to work-life excellence at MITRE," notes Bill Albright, director of Quality of Work Life, who accepted the award for MITRE. "It acknowledges our desire to cultivate and maintain a world class work environment. But, even more importantly, it allows us to better assess our strengths and areas for improvement. "

The Maryland Work-Life Alliance's "Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval" is one of several "best company" honors MITRE has won recently. In recent months, MITRE was named to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for 2004" list and the Working Mother 2003 "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list.

The Maryland Work-Life Alliance is a statewide initiative of Discovery Communications, Inc. and Montgomery County Government.
