MITRE Receives IEEE Northern Virginia Section Award FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Va., May 6, 2004 — The MITRE Corporation was recently presented with the IEEE's Northern Virginia Section 2004 Sustaining Friend award at IEEE's National Capital Area annual awards banquet held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. IEEE Northern Virginia Section Chair for 2004, Amarjeet S. Basra, P.E., presented the award to MITRE for supporting continued employee involvement in the IEEE; graciously hosting over a dozen IEEE meetings at its McLean facility; and recognizing the mutual benefits of IEEE's conferences, technical papers, standards committees, and membership development. Dr. Glenn Roberts, chief engineer at MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development, who accepted the award on behalf of MITRE, said "We were very pleased to be able to support the IEEE Northern Virginia Section by providing access to MITRE's facilities for their meetings. MITRE has had a long history of participation in IEEE technical activities and we continue to look for ways to grow and enrich that affiliation." MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
