Bedford, Mass., October 26, 2004 — In a ceremony held today, The MITRE Corporation's Chief Financial Officer Lew Fincke accepted a $283,433 rebate check from NSTAR, Massachusetts' largest investor-owned electric and gas utility, for energy-saving upgrades on MITRE's Bedford campus.

The upgrades include lighting enhancements and building systems modifications that are part of a campus-wide modernization program, which also includes the design and construction of the MITRE Center, a new three-story, 96,000 square foot "green" building. Work on the MITRE Center began last year following a $415,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Renewable Energy Trust.

Said Fincke, "By working with us to identify energy savings opportunities and implement energy-saving devices across the campus, NSTAR has helped not only to reduce our energy requirements, but also to enhance the quality of work life at MITRE."

"NSTAR's partnership with MITRE is a solid example of our energy efficiency programs at work," said Penni Conner, NSTAR's Vice President of Customer Care. "Using energy wisely is good for customers, good for the environment, and good for the economy."

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government.
