The MITRE Corporation Hosts Annual "Take Our Children To Work Day" at MITRE's McLean Facility FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Va., May 6, 2004 — The MITRE Corporation hosted 175 children of employees at their McLean, Va. offices in conjunction with the national "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" on April 22. During their visit to MITRE, children aged 8 to 15 years had the opportunity to experience different aspects of the scientific and technology world that aren’t usually available in traditional school settings. This year's theme was "Today's Vision, Tomorrow's Reality," and more than a dozen exhibits and hands-on activities broadened their knowledge and exposed them to a diverse range of career options for their future. "It is our hope that by the end of the day, the children had not only a better understanding of what their parents do all day, but also a broader sense of the technology that is available to them," said William Albright, director of quality of work/life and benefits at the company. "All the programs were planned to provide a stimulating, educational experience, so children could see first-hand what goes on at work." Some of the activities included taking a flight in a cockpit simulator, disassembling a PC and touring an information security lab. The program also included a view into the worlds of Human Resources and Security. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
