MITRE Announces Promotion of J. Michel Blom to Senior Vice President and General Manager FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Va., January 20, 2005 — The MITRE Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer Martin Faga is pleased to announce the promotion of J. Michel Blom to senior vice president and general manager of the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM), the federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) operated by MITRE for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In this role, Blom will provide strategic leadership and guidance to help CEM achieve its mission of advancing enterprise modernization across IRS and other government agencies such as the Department of the Treasury and its bureaus, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Bureau of the Census. Said Faga, "Mike has played key roles not only in developing MITRE's support to the IRS and a range of other civil agencies but also in leading management initiatives to further develop and strengthen the contributions of the Center for Enterprise Modernization." Blom's promotion was approved at a recent meeting of MITRE's Board of Trustees. He takes over the position from Gene Cross, who recently retired from the Corporation. Blom joined MITRE in 1995 with over 25 years of experience in systems engineering at other technical organizations and in the intelligence community. He previously held the position of Vice President and Deputy Director of CEM. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
