San Antonio, Texas, March 11, 2005 — Robert "Bobby" Blount, Jr., a senior principal systems engineer in the San Antonio office of The MITRE Corporation, has been named the Texas Outstanding Adult Volunteer for large school districts by the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE). He is the only recipient from the Bexar County area (which includes San Antonio) and one of 29 in the state to be honored. The award was presented at TAPE's annual conference, which was held in Dallas at the InterContinental Hotel on February 9-11.

This award comes on the heels of two other significant accomplishments for Blount, who is currently serving his second term as president of the Northside Independent School District School Board. He was recently named a Director of The Texas Lyceum Association, a think tank organization that helps develop Texas leaders. Blount was also elected president of the Bexar County School Board Presidents' Coalition. This coalition provides development and collaboration opportunities for the presidents of the various school boards in Bexar County. He has achieved the status of "master trustee" as a graduate of the Texas Association of School Boards Leadership Program.

Blount has served the school district in many capacities. He was the president-elect of the Northside Education Foundation and served on the Galm Elementary School PTA. He served as one of the tri-chairs of the 1998 Citizens Bond/Tax Cap Committee. He acts as a mentor at Rayburn Middle School and Galm Elementary and is a basketball and soccer coach. Blount is the founder and director of the annual Texas Solar Race Car Event, which MITRE and Rayburn Middle School host.

A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Blount holds a master's degree in systems management from St. Mary's University and a law degree from George Mason University. He and his wife, Sandra Sandoval, are the parents of two school-aged children.
