MITRE Named to Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work for" List for Fourth Year in a Row FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher Bedford, Mass., January 10, 2005 — The MITRE Corporation has been named to Fortune magazine's 2005 "100 Best Companies To Work For in America" list for the fourth year in a row. This year MITRE was ranked number 53. The Fortune "100 Best" list is based on an independent evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of its employees. Approximately 1,000 companies were initially considered for the Fortune "100 Best" list; 356 were chosen for more in-depth evaluation. At each of those companies, 350 randomly selected employees were asked to complete a 57-question survey created by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco. Two-thirds of a company's ranking is based on employee responses to the survey. The remaining one-third is based on an assessment of each company's demographics, compensation, benefit programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility, respect, fairness, and pride/camaraderie. "Over the past four years, we have come to realize that while the ranking is of interest the real cause for celebration is making the list and being recognized as a company that is concerned about its employees and their work environment," said Martin C. Faga, President and Chief Executive Officer at The MITRE Corporation. "This sort of achievement makes us all proud." MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
