McLean, Virginia, September 30, 2005 — The MITRE Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer Martin C. Faga recently announced the appointment of Alfred Grasso to Executive Vice President. The appointment was approved at a September meeting of MITRE's Board of Trustees. In addition, the Board voted that Mr. Grasso will succeed Mr. Faga as President and Chief Executive Officer when he retires in 2006.

Said Faga, "I am delighted with the Board's decision and I look forward to working with Al in this new capacity." For the time being, Mr. Grasso will continue to serve as Director of the Department of Defense's Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence Federally Funded Research and Development Center, a position he has held since 2004.

During his 19 years at MITRE, Mr. Grasso has served in a number of progressively responsible roles, including Technical Director at MITRE's Fort Monmouth, N.J. operation, Chief Information Officer, and Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Washington Command, Control, and Communications Center.

Before joining MITRE, he worked for ARINC Research Corporation and Westinghouse Electronic Corporation on advanced receiver technology using integrated acousto-optics as a means of signal transformation.

Mr. Grasso holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a master's degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Army Science Board and the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association.

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
