The MITRE Corporation Names Bill Neugent a MITRE Fellow

McLean, Virginia, May 12, 2005 — The MITRE Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer Martin C. Faga recently announced the appointment of Bill Neugent to the position of MITRE Fellow.

The title of fellow is conferred on senior members of the company's technical staff who have made significant contributions to the state of the art in one or more technical disciplines. Mr. Neugent is Chief Engineer for MITRE's Information Security Division. He has developed computer security strategies for a number of agencies and was a primary architect of the Defense-in-Depth strategy that has been implemented throughout the U.S. military.

"Bill is well respected both within MITRE and in the broader intelligence community for his remarkable record of technical achievements and tireless work advancing the information security discipline," said Faga. "He has consistently demonstrated leadership to evolve the information security policies, practices, and tools that are essential to our sponsors' current and future missions."

MITRE has appointed only eight fellows since the position was created in 1962. These individuals are recognized nationally, and often internationally, as experts in their field. They participate broadly in professional and technical societies, are frequently invited to present at key conferences, and have been published extensively in refereed journals and other key publications. MITRE Fellows also advise the company's trustees, officers and managers on vital technical matters.
