MITRE's Harry W. Vasquez Receives National Reconnaissance Office Superior Service Award FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, July 5, 2005 — Harry W. Vasquez, director of intelligence integration at The MITRE Corporation, recently received the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Medal of Superior Service. The award was presented to Vasquez for his 12 years of outstanding service as the senior program manager for MITRE's NRO program and for his contributions to the NRO's mission. The award was presented by Dr. Susan Gragg, chief information officer (CIO) of NRO, on behalf of NRO Director Peter B. Teets, who retired two days prior to the award. In attendance at the award presentation were MITRE President and Chief Executive Officer Martin C. Faga and MITRE Vice President of the Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems, Dr. Robert A. Mikelskas. The award citation signed by Teets reads in part, "Mr. Vasquez's program management efforts helped the NRO meet high levels of collaborative accomplishments; and his contributions reflect great credit upon himself, the MITRE Corporation, the NRO, and the United States of America." During his tenure as program manager, Vasquez provided support for most NRO Directorates and Offices. One of his first efforts was to assess the NRO's information technology (IT) systems in order to identify and correct system vulnerabilities. Subsequently, Vasquez produced a roadmap for the NRO's Communications Systems and Acquisition Operations Directorate that identified the strategic direction for IT and communications across the entire NRO. "Harry's commitment and achievements while at the NRO make him truly deserving of this prestigious award," said Bill Brindley, NRO Chief and CIO of the IT Strategic Directions Group.
