MITRE Named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List For Fifth Year in a Row FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia, January 9, 2006 — The MITRE Corporation has been named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies To Work For" list for the fifth year in a row. This year MITRE was ranked number 66. FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list is based on an independent evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of its employees. Approximately 1,500 companies were initially considered for the list; 466 were chosen for more in-depth evaluation. At each of those companies, 400 randomly selected employees were asked to complete a 57-question survey created by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco. Two-thirds of a company's ranking is based on employee responses to the survey. The remaining one-third is based on an assessment of each company's demographics, compensation, benefit programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility, respect, fairness, and pride/camaraderie. MITRE, which employs approximately 5,750 staff, was recognized for its generous retirement plan and the overall quality of its workplace. "In our five years of participation in this increasingly competitive process, we have come to realize that our ranking in a given year is less important than what our inclusion on the list represents—that MITRE is recognized as a company that is concerned about its employees and their work environment," said Martin C. Faga, President and Chief Executive Officer at The MITRE Corporation. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
