Dr. Stephen D. Huffman Appointed MITRE Chief Technology Officer

McLean, Virginia, October 23, 2006 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Stephen D. Huffman to chief technology officer (CTO), replacing Dr. Louis S. Metzger who has been acting in the role for the past six months. Dr. Metzger is a senior vice president and serves as MITRE's corporate chief engineer.

As CTO, Dr. Huffman will be responsible for managing and shaping MITRE's investments in research and development. Dr. Huffman joined MITRE in 1988 and has held a variety of positions in support of MITRE's work for the Department of Defense (DOD), most recently he served as vice president of the Washington Command, Control, and Communications Center where he was responsible for MITRE's work for selected senior customers focused on DOD transformation.

Previously, he served as chief engineer of the Washington Command, Control, and Communications Center where he oversaw the formulation and execution of a $15 million independent research and development program.

"Ensuring a strong research program that promotes the application of new technologies and techniques tailored to sponsor needs and that sharpens the technical tools and skills of our staff is key to our mission," said Mr. Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and chief executive officer. "Steve's distinguished career makes him the ideal choice to lead this effort."

Dr. Huffman received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Duke University.
