MITRE Elects Mark Kontos as Senior Vice President FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, March 8, 2006 — The MITRE Corporation's Board of Trustees recently elected Mark W. Kontos as a Senior Vice President and an officer of the Corporation. In addition, the Board voted that Mr. Kontos will succeed Lewis Fincke as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) when Mr. Fincke retires in June. Mr. Martin C. Faga, MITRE's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are delighted with Mark's election to the officer team. He is bringing his wide-ranging experiences in finance to MITRE at an important time, and we are looking forward to working with him in this new capacity." For the time being, Mr. Kontos will continue to serve as Deputy CFO, a position he has held since coming to MITRE in November 2005. Most recently, Mr. Kontos had served as a financial consultant to Northrop Grumman Corporation, advising on strategy for projects in the energy sector. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President and CFO for seven years at the Battelle Memorial Institute, and as CFO and vice president of AK Steel Corporation for two years. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kontos spent 15 years with Citibank/Citigroup, holding a variety of domestic and overseas positions, including vice president of the World Corporation Group and vice president of Institutional Recovery Management. Mr. Kontos has also served on numerous boards of directors, including those of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Brookhaven National Laboratory. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Beloit College and an MBA in finance and international business from the University of Chicago.
