Dr. Louis Metzger Appointed MITRE Senior Vice President and Corporate Chief Engineer FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, April 13, 2006 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Louis S. Metzger to the position of senior vice president and corporate chief engineer. In this position, Dr. Metzger will work across MITRE's three federally funded research and development centers to strengthen systems engineering capabilities, drive integration across programs, and ensure the technical quality of MITRE's work. "As MITRE's chief engineer, Lou will champion enterprise systems engineering and push cross-cutting integration," said Martin C. Faga, president and chief executive officer. "Over the years, Lou has institutionalized systems engineering at MITRE in support of our major Air Force sponsor, and we are delighted to be working with him in this new capacity." Before accepting this position, Dr. Metzger served as vice president of MITRE's Center for Air Force Command and Control Systems, a position he held since 2001, when he returned to MITRE following a two-year tenure as chief scientist of the Air Force. Dr. Metzger first joined MITRE in 1987 as associate technical director of the Tactical Communications Division. From 1990 to 1992, he was technical director of the Strategic Communications Division, and from 1992 to 1996, he was technical director of the Theater Command, Control, and Communications Division, where he was responsible for three of MITRE's largest projects. Dr. Metzger has also served as the executive director of resources for MITRE's Air Force Center, where he led more than 1,100 technical and support staff. Dr. Metzger was a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, and served on the National Research Council's Air Force Studies Board Committee on Tactical Communications. He is currently a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Defense Industrial Association, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, and the George Mason University C4I Center Advisory Group, and is chairman of the MILCOM Conference Board. A graduate of MIT, Dr. Metzger is a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi honorary societies, and was awarded AFCEA's 2005 Benjamin H. Oliver Gold Medal for Engineering. He has also received both Meritorious Civilian Service and Exceptional Civilian Service decorations from the Air Force.
