MITRE Named a Health & Wellness Trailblazer by the Alliance for Workplace Excellence

McLean, Virginia, June 8, 2006 — The MITRE Corporation has received a 2006 Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a Rockville, Md.-based nonprofit organization working to position workplace excellence as a competitive advantage in the business community. The newly created award recognizes employers that demonstrate exemplary commitment to the physical and mental health of their workforce. MITRE was also awarded the Alliance's Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval for the third year in a row.

"Health and wellness programs by themselves are okay, but our objective is to make these programs part of the company culture," says Bill Albright, MITRE's director of quality of work life and benefits.

Mr. Albright accepted both awards on behalf of MITRE at the May 19th Workplace Excellence Award ceremony in Bethesda, Md. A short film by YouthMade, a group for young people interested in film careers, showcased MITRE's health and wellness programs at the awards banquet.

Award-winners were selected based on the merit of applications submitted to an independent review panel. MITRE was one of six area businesses to receive the new Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award. MITRE received the award for its "Embrace Your Health" initiative, which takes a holistic approach to empowering employees to manage their health and wellness. MITRE's workplace programs supporting the "Embrace Your Health" initiative include the company fitness centers; health and life counseling; on-site massage, chiropractic, and other services; ergonomics; and health maintenance activities such as flu shots, nutrition programs, blood pressure screening, and health fairs and speakers.
