MITRE Executive Director Jim Cook Named to Federal 100 List FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher McLean, Virginia, May 3, 2007 — The MITRE Corporation congratulates its Executive Director for Public Sector Revenue and Finance, Jim Cook, on being named one of the Federal 100 for 2007 by Federal Computer Week (FCW). The Federal 100 recognizes individuals from government, industry, and academia who significantly influence how the federal government uses, manages, or buys information technology. Federal 100 winners are recognized for their risk-taking, vision, and pioneering spirit in the federal information technology community. The Internal Revenue Service's Chief Information Officer Richard Spires nominated Cook for the award for his role in defining and developing the IRS Modernization Vision and Strategy and his leadership on an effort to assess and restore the agency's automated refund fraud detection capability. In his nomination, Spires cited Cook's commitment to a more effective government and called him "a leader who sets a great example for others to follow." Cook, along with the entire group of 2007 Federal 100 Winners, was honored at a gala and awards ceremony on March 26th in McLean, Va. The winners were selected by an independent panel of judges for their contributions to the development, acquisition, or management of federal information technology. The awards are given by FCW, a publication of one of the leading media outlets for the government information technology market. "I am excited and honored to be recognized by FCW and the IRS in this way," says Cook. "While this is an individual award, I recognize that any contribution I make is small when compared with the larger contribution made by the entire team. I'm proud of our MITRE team and the value they deliver to our sponsors." Prior to joining MITRE, Cook was a partner and executive with IBM Business Consulting Services and a consulting partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Throughout his career, Cook has focused on the business and technology challenges facing financial services organizations. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
