McLean, Virginia, July 12, 2007 — Dr. Lisa Costa, a division chief scientist at MITRE's Tampa, Fla., site, has received the 2007 Award for Meritorious Service to the Intelligence Community from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International. AFCEA, a non-profit international association, is dedicated to supporting global security by encouraging a close cooperative relationship among civil government agencies, the military, and industry.

Nominations for the Award for Meritorious Service to the Intelligence Community come from AFCEA chapters and companies across the country and are reviewed by AFCEA's Intelligence Committee, which is made up of 50 senior government and industry members. Dr. Costa received the award at a dinner this evening that is part of the AFCEA's Transformation Warfare Conference and Expo in Virginia Beach, Va.

Dr. Costa is being honored not only for her work in support of the intelligence community, but also for her work with her local AFCEA chapter. At MITRE, Dr. Costa is responsible for the technical quality of the company's work for the combatant commands and service intelligence agencies. She has also served for more than 10 years as program chair for AFCEA's TechNet Tampa Conference, expanding it from a local event to a world-class meeting with representation from multiple coalition nations.

"Lisa has supported AFCEA International for the last decade by guiding TechNet Tampa from a virtually unknown entity to its present state of international success," said MITRE President and CEO Al Grasso. "She has also worked diligently to bring the intelligence community to actively participate in AFCEA activities and events."

Dr. Costa has a B.S. in computer science and mathematics and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in computer science. She has published numerous technical articles, co-edited technical proceedings, chaired technical sessions, and presented at international scientific conferences. In addition to AFCEA, Dr. Costa is an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
