McLean, Virginia, July 12, 2007 — Mr. Danny DeMarinis, Director of Multinational and Strategic Initiatives and Aberdeen Site Leader for the Army Programs Directorate at The MITRE Corporation, has received the 2007 Leadership Award from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International. AFCEA, a non-profit international association, is dedicated to supporting global security by encouraging a close cooperative relationship among civil government agencies, the military, and industry.

Nominations for the Leadership Award come from AFCEA chapters and companies across the country. The recipient must be a long-standing member of AFCEA with a record of sustained contributions to the Association, and possess exceptional leadership skills. DeMarinis received the award at a dinner this evening that is part of the AFCEA's Transformation Warfare Conference and Expo in Virginia Beach, Va.

DeMarinis is being honored for his national, regional and local work in support of AFCEA International. The award justification cites in part:

"Danny's leadership propelled the Chapter to nearly 1000 members as Fort Monmouth itself grew with its majority of engineering and computer science employees. Danny moved up in the AFCEAN structure from Chapter President to become one of the Regional VPs in 1986 and continues in this position today.

"As Ft. Monmouth prepares to move to Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, Danny has initiated discussions/initiatives with the existing Aberdeen, Md., Chapter to coordinate with the Ft. Monmouth Chapter's officers to ensure that the transition is successful. When the bulk of the Ft. Monmouth government and supporting contractors move to Aberdeen, anticipated in 2011, this joint Chapter planning will ensure its members get transferred to the Aberdeen Chapter and stay active members of AFCEA International. He has been an officer and contributor to AFCEA International for over 30 years and has been the Technical Editor/member of the Conference Committee for the past 30 years."

"Danny has had a long and successful association with AFCEA International," said MITRE President and CEO Al Grasso. "I'm especially pleased that he's a key player in the transitioning of AFCEA membership to Aberdeen."

DeMarinis received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the City College of New York, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, a Master's in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology and a Masters of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickenson University. He is presently completing a Professional Degree from Columbia University's Electrical Engineering program.
