Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia, January 8, 2007 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce that it ranked number 60 on FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies To Work For" list, marking MITRE's sixth year in a row on the list. MITRE also ranked number 26 on the Best Medium-Sized Company list. Additionally, FORTUNE named MITRE number five in the top ten companies that encourage employees to balance their work and home lives.

"Perhaps the greatest benefit MITRE derives from participation in the FORTUNE competition is the feedback—both kudos and concerns—that the employee survey yields," said MITRE's President and Chief Executive Officer Al Grasso. "This information, combined with what we learn from other surveys and through more informal channels, contributes to our understanding of what we need to do to make the company even better."

FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list is based on an independent evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of its employees. Approximately 1,500 companies were initially considered for the list; 466 were chosen for more in-depth evaluation. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the responses of 400 randomly selected employees to a 57-question survey. The remaining one-third is based on an assessment of the company's demographics, compensation and benefit programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility, respect, fairness, and pride/camaraderie.

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
