McLean, Virginia, January 19, 2007 — The MITRE Corporation announced today that it has licensed to Quickpath Technologies, Inc. (Quickpath Bioscience) of Columbia, Maryland its platform of technologies in the field of glycomics. The platform is derived from research conducted under the MITRE Technology Program. The technologies hold great promise in a broad range of bioscience and medical fields, with near-term application in the area of pathogen capture. Quickpath Bioscience is targeting roll-out of its first commercial products in late 2007 or early 2008.

This license agreement is an example of how MITRE's Technology Transfer Program can put technologies into the hands of commercial companies that can make them available to MITRE's sponsors and the public as supported, affordable products. In this case, MITRE's Technology Transfer Office is working with a technology start-up company. "The MITRE Technology Transfer Office has been actively seeking opportunities to license our technologies to startup companies. Licensing to technology start-up companies can be a very effective commercialization model, resulting in promising technologies being made available to the public. We are pleased to be working with the team at Quickpath" stated Gerard Eldering, director of MITRE's Technology Transfer Office.

"The MITRE technology platform in the emerging field of glycomics has such broad potential, it's an exciting challenge," stated Quickpath's CEO Richard Spedden. "As with any emerging technology, we have some development work to do, but I am confident that we have a solid technology, talented staff and excellent partners for transforming it from science into a product with a compelling value proposition. Working with The MITRE Corporation on the technology transfer has been a pleasure."

Quickpath Technologies, Inc. (Quickpath Bioscience) is a start-up company with headquarters in Howard County, Maryland. (http://www.quickpath.us)
