McLean, Virginia, November 27, 2007 — Ms. Dorothea (Dolly) Greenwood, MITRE's director of Army Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, has received the Heroine in Technology Award from Women in Technology (WIT).

WIT is a not-for-profit organization that offers women in the technology field a range of professional development and networking opportunities and also recognizes women as role models. The organization's annual event, which raises funds for the March of Dimes, honors women in the technology field who use their experience, knowledge, and skills to benefit the community. MITRE is a sponsor of WIT.

Greenwood, who won in the individual category, was selected from a group of 12 other finalists. She was praised for her exemplary volunteer work, most notably helping lead annual mission trips with her church to an Appalachian town called Dungannon. The first week in August, Greenwood, a dozen chaperones, and more than 40 Northern Virginia teenagers from three area churches visit the southwestern Virginia town to repair houses of some of the Commonwealth's poorest residents.

The group is equipped to build a porch, build a ramp, fix a wall or a door, or paint. All of the tasks are completed by the teens; Greenwood and other chaperones supervise the work. Proposals for the repairs come from the Dungannon Development Commission, Inc. (DDC).The DDC started Project HELP (Housing Enterprise for Low-income People) for residents of Scott County—where Dungannon is located—who are at or below the poverty line and require home repairs.

Mr. Alfred Grasso, MITRE's president and chief executive officer, attended the awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Va. "This award is most deserved," said Grasso. "It was an honor to celebrate Dolly's accomplishments and to see that her leadership skills have not only benefited MITRE and its sponsors, but the community as a whole."

With MITRE since 1984, Greenwood has held several leadership positions within the company. She served as deputy chief information officer from 1997 to 2002. In the last twenty-five years, she has participated in the design and development of major information technology programs across the intelligence community. Greenwood holds a bachelor's in mathematics and a bachelor's in computer science from American University. She earned a master's in systems management from the University of Southern California.

MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
