The MITRE Corporation Celebrates 25 Years in Huntsville FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher Bedford, Massachusetts, and McLean, Virginia, August 9, 2007 — The MITRE Corporation, a leader in applying systems engineering and advanced technology, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Huntsville, Alabama site on August 13, 2007. The site opened its doors in 1982 with one employee and over the years has grown to meet the needs of our sponsors, employing 56 people today. MITRE's President and Chief Executive Officer Al Grasso said, "We are very pleased that our sponsors value our contributions to their work programs in Huntsville—we work as their partner and provide innovative systems thinking to address their most vexing technical problems. Our application of systems thinking to command and control problems in the Department of Defense is driven by our mission as a public interest company addressing issues of critical national importance. Our successes in Huntsville have been made possible by our employees, and this anniversary is a testament to their achievements and dedication to MITRE, its sponsors, and the Huntsville community." Site Leader Larry Lamb describes MITRE's special role in Huntsville: "Our site is one of some 69 sites MITRE operates around the world. Through our information infrastructure all of those disparate locations provide a rich knowledge base that our sponsors know we can call on to tackle especially difficult problems—that 'reach back' capability is of great value to our sponsors. On the occasion of our 25th anniversary, I'm especially proud of our staff who have come from the local area and from around the country, each providing technical expertise where needed and each with the strength of the entire corporation at their backs." MITRE (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit company that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
