Aviation Week Names MITRE a "Best Place to Work" FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher BEDFORD, Mass., and MCLEAN, Va., September 16, 2009 — Aviation Week has ranked MITRE among the top 43 companies for aerospace and defense (A&D) professionals in its 2009 Workforce Study. MITRE received honors in all three categories—Technological Challenge (ranked second), Valuing the Individual/Diversity (ranked sixth), and Learning/Career Opportunity (ranked second)—a first since the study began in 2004. Categories were based on criteria deemed important by readers of the leading aviation and aerospace industry magazine. MITRE was recognized for the technical challenge it offers A&D employees, the tools provided to support research, development, and design, and for the focus on work/life balance. "It's an honor to be included on Aviation Week's Best Places to Work list," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "MITRE's employees are the key to helping our government sponsors address their most critical challenges, so providing a workplace that helps them do their best each day is of the utmost importance." Agam Sinha, senior vice president and general manager of MITRE's FAA-sponsored Center for Advanced Aviation System Development, and William Albright, director of Quality of Work Life and Benefits in MITRE's Human Resources organization, commented on the company's approach in the August 24 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology. "Most people are very well versed in terms of understanding the nuances of where technology can take us; we have extensive laboratories and tools where people can try out their ideas," said Sinha. Albright discussed the leadership's focus on the work/life environment needed to support the intensity required for technology development. "People have to juggle many more balls," he said. "We have invested a lot in terms of information technology systems, policies, communication and tools, security, and facilities. We must support the mobile worker and provide the tools to communicate and engage, whether on one of our two main campuses, at the 60 sites we have around the world, or in our sponsors' offices." About The MITRE Corporation The MITRE Corporation (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit organization that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Homeland Security, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
