MITRE Names James Cook a Vice President FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher MCLEAN, Va., March 6, 2009 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce the promotion of Mr. James E. Cook to vice president. Cook is currently director of the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM), the federally funded research and development center the company operates for the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs. He will continue in this role, working closely with Dr. Jason F. Providakes, senior vice president and general manager, leading MITRE's support of modernization efforts at the IRS, the VA, and other civilian government agencies. Cook has 25 years of consulting, systems integration, program management, and organizational change management experience in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining MITRE in 2004 as CEM's executive director for public sector revenue and finance, he served as a partner and executive with IBM Business Consulting and a consulting partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In 1997, Cook became one of a handful of people from industry to receive the IRS Commissioner's Award for his leadership in helping modernize the agency's tax administration business processes and systems. In 2007, he received Federal Computer Week's "FED 100" award as one of the top 100 executives in government IT for his leadership role assisting the IRS in setting a new IT direction. "Jim has a keen ability to find practical solutions to complex public sector challenges," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE's president and chief executive officer. "His demonstrated success in strengthening agency performance is a tremendous asset to our sponsors and our leadership team." Recognized for facilitating change at the policy, strategic, technical, and operational level, Cook has given presentations to government and industry leaders and participated on panels on capital investment planning and budgeting for IT programs and integration issues facing government chief information officers. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
