MITRE Named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List for Eighth Straight Year FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher BEDFORD, Mass., and MCLEAN, Va., January 29, 2009 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce that it has been selected for FORTUNE's 2009 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For"—marking the company's eighth consecutive year on the annual list. The not-for-profit organization ranked 66 on the list, was named number four out of the top 10 businesses for encouraging employee work/life balance (up from number six), and earned sixth place for its low turnover rate of 4%. MITRE also ranked 18 out of 34 in the category of medium-sized companies. "We're delighted to be among FORTUNE's 100 best," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE's president and chief executive officer. "When employee satisfaction is high, we're that much better equipped to help our sponsors solve complex challenges facing the nation." The selection process for the magazine's top 100 is highly competitive. Only 353 of the 1,000 companies initially considered for this year's list were chosen for in-depth evaluation. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the responses of 400 randomly selected employees to a 57-question survey created by the Great Place to Work® Institute, a global research and consulting firm. The remaining third is based on a culture audit, which includes detailed questions regarding demographics, pay and benefits, and open-ended questions about company culture, philosophy, and communications. The full list and related stories appear in the February 2 issue of FORTUNE. The MITRE Corporation (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit national resource that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Veterans Affairs, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va.
