MITRE Among Top Ten Corporations for Knowledge Management FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher BEDFORD, Mass., and MCLEAN, Va., November 18, 2009 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce it has been named a 2009 North American Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Award winner. This is the first time the company has received the award, which recognizes organizations for exceptional knowledge management and knowledge sharing practices. One of ten winners, MITRE was specifically cited for creating a corporate knowledge-driven culture and for cultivating an environment of collaborative knowledge sharing. "One thing that truly differentiates MITRE is our ability to reach back to our knowledge base of more than 7,000 employees working to help government sponsors solve critical national problems," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "With more than 50 years of experience serving in the public interest, MITRE has developed a broad and deep understanding of the technology and mission challenges in our customer environments. We've made it our practice to make that information accessible to staff members so that past knowledge informs current—and future—challenges. This model allows us to consistently deliver high quality support to our customers and sponsors. They not only get the support of current team members, they benefit from the experience and expertise of the entire company." Teleos, an independent knowledge management and intellectual capital research company, in association with The KNOW Network, conducted the study to identify North American-based organizations that demonstrate excellence in eight key knowledge performance dimensions, which include: creating a corporate knowledge-driven culture; developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership; delivering knowledge-based products/solutions; maximizing enterprise intellectual capital; creating an environment for collaborative knowledge sharing; creating a learning organization; delivering value based on customer/stakeholder knowledge; and transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder/stakeholder value. A panel of North American Fortune Global 500 business executives and leading knowledge management and intellectual capital experts rated the organizations against the MAKE framework to select the 2009 winners. "We're continually refining our knowledge management capabilities and reinforcing our knowledge sharing culture," said Joel Jacobs, deputy CIO at MITRE. "Knowledge management is not one a one-time project, but a continual striving to be better at leveraging knowledge and applying learning. Being recognized as a MAKE winner is a wonderful indication that our efforts are working."
