Mr. Richard J. Byrne Appointed MITRE Senior Vice President FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Jennifer J. Shearman Karina H. Wright BEDFORD, Mass., November 30, 2010 — The MITRE Corporation is pleased to announce the election of Mr. Richard J. Byrne to senior vice president and general manager of MITRE's Command and Control Center (C2C). The C2C is one of two operating centers within the DoD Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence Federally Funded Research and Development Center (C3I FFRDC) that MITRE operates on behalf of the Department of Defense. Previously, Mr. Byrne was a vice president within the Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems, the second operating center within the DoD C3I FFRDC. Before that, he served as vice president overseeing C2C's technical centers and research programs, promoting innovative solutions for problems of national importance. "Rich's experience across the C3I FFRDC, combined with his deep technical understanding, will enable him to provide the C2C with strong leadership to address our sponsors' complex challenges," said Alfred Grasso, president and chief executive officer. Mr. Byrne has been the recipient of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's 2010 International Benjamin H. Oliver Gold Medal for Engineering, the 2006 International Meritorious Award for Engineering, and the 2004 International Golden Link Award. Mr. Byrne, who joined MITRE in 1990, has held a series of leadership positions in microelectronics, sensors, communications, networking, and information technologies. He has a bachelor's in electrical engineering and a master's in electrical engineering and computer science, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a 2006 graduate of the Harvard Business School General Management Program, where he was elected class speaker.
