MITRE Opens Baltimore Site to Support the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Jennifer J. Shearman Karina H. Wright BALTIMORE, Md., October 26, 2010 — The MITRE Corporation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the official opening of a new site to support the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The site, which is located at 2275 Rolling Run Road in Windsor Hill, Md., currently houses 40 MITRE staff and is designed for collaboration with 22,900 sq. ft of space including 42 offices, three visitor offices, and six conference rooms for a total capacity of 85 people. MITRE first began working with CMS, a division within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in 2003 when the Medicare Modernization Act mandated the creation of an infrastructure to effectively deliver prescription drugs to senior citizens. Since that time, MITRE has continued to collaborate with CMS across a wide range of enterprise systems modernization initiatives, including data center acquisitions, Web architectures, and information assurance strategy and oversight. "This location is an important investment for us. We are working closely with CMS on enterprise systems engineering for health care innovation, and this building's physical proximity is an enabler for that work," said Jason Providakes, senior vice president and general manager of MITRE's Center for Connected Government. In addition to CMS, the site also supports the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which co-sponsor MITRE's Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM). CEM is the federally funded research and development center that the company operates on behalf of the IRS and VA. This site is one of seven MITRE offices in Maryland, including facilities in Aberdeen, Ft. Meade, Lexington Park, New Carrollton, Silver Spring, and Suitland. About The MITRE Corporation The MITRE Corporation (www.mitre.org) is a not-for-profit organization that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the government. It operates federally funded research and development centers for the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Homeland Security, with principal locations in Bedford, Mass., and McLean, Va. MITRE's Center for Connected Government's mission is to more effectively address critical national priorities and integrate across the company's expanding portfolio of civilian agency programs.
