MITRE Named One of FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" Nine Years in a Row FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher BEDFORD, Mass., and MCLEAN, Va., February 3, 2010 — FORTUNE has ranked The MITRE Corporation #69 on its 2010 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." This is the company's ninth straight year on the magazine's highly selective list. MITRE was specifically cited for work-life balance (ranked seventh overall) and for providing exceptional educational assistance benefits and reimbursement. The not-for-profit organization was also rated 17 out of 30 in the category of midsize companies. "It's thanks to our dedicated, talented employees that MITRE made FORTUNE's list again this year," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "Their professionalism and commitment creates a positive work environment, which makes it possible to help our sponsors solve complex national challenges. The two go hand-in-hand." To pick the 100 Best Companies, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The 57-question survey (sent to 539 MITRE employees) assesses attitudes about job satisfaction, camaraderie, and management's credibility. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit—detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring, communication, and diversity. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible to apply. Of the more than 1,000 companies initially considered for the 2010 list, only 343 were selected for in-depth evaluation. The full list and related stories appear in the February 8 issue of FORTUNE and at www.fortune.com/bestcompanies.
