MITRE President and CEO Appointed to Howard University's Board of Visitors FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher MCLEAN, Va., May 21, 2010 — Alfred Grasso, president and CEO of The MITRE Corporation, has been appointed a member of Howard University's College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences (CEACS) Board of Visitors. Established in 2000, the Board of Visitors supports the various departments of CEACS, with an eye on the role of the College in the national arena. Its members, who include representatives from higher education and the private sector, advise the president, the provost, the dean of the College, and Howard's board of trustees. In recent years, the board has helped advance CEACS' mission by advising on issues such as broadband technology, infrastructure, and nanotechnology. "I'm delighted to be a part of the Board of Visitors," said Grasso. "Howard's location in the nation's capital offers unique opportunities for CEACS' students both to study and to have a real impact on complex national challenges. I look forward to serving with the other members to further expand those opportunities and to keep the College on the cutting edge of technology." MITRE has a longstanding relationship with Howard University and CEACS. Through the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science (GEM), Inc., Howard students have been hired as MITRE technical interns, and some GEM alumni have become full-time employees.
