BEDFORD, Mass. and MCLEAN, Va., March 21, 2011 — The American Psychological Association (APA) has recognized The MITRE Corporation with its 2011 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. One of eight North American employers to receive the award this year, MITRE won in the APA's Large Not-for-Profit category. MITRE was honored in 2009 by the Virginia Psychological Association with its state-level Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award, which qualified the corporation to be nominated for the national APA honor.

According to the APA, MITRE excelled in its efforts to foster employee involvement, health and safety, employee growth and development, work-life balance and employee recognition. The corporation's Flexible Work Arrangements Program, on-site health services department, and company-wide emphasis on education and training are among the practices cited by the APA in recognizing MITRE with the 2011 award.

"We're thrilled to receive this recognition for our efforts to foster a dynamic, engaging, and healthy working environment for our employees," said Lisa Bender, MITRE Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.

"As we head into the economic recovery, employers who understand how a positive organizational culture and a healthy workforce can promote business success will have a distinct competitive advantage," says David W. Ballard, PsyD, MBA, the APA's assistant executive director for marketing and business development. "The MITRE Corporation's workplace practices help create a work environment where both employees and the organization thrive."

MITRE received the award during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C., on March 12, 2011.
