BEDFORD, Mass., November 16, 2011 — The MITRE Corporation has been named one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts in the Boston Globe's fourth annual employee survey. This year MITRE was ranked number 5 on the overall list of the best large companies (those with 1,000 or more employees).

The Top Places to Work 2011 list was published in the Sunday Globe on November 6, 2011. Online, the report can be found at http://www.boston.com/jobs/topworkplaces/2011/. The Globe's survey recognizes outstanding workplaces in Massachusetts based on employee opinions about company direction, execution, managers, career, conditions, and pay and benefits. Private companies and nonprofits as well as publicly-held businesses were included in the Globe's analysis.

The Boston Globe worked with Workplace Dynamics, specialists in employee engagement and retention, to conduct the 2011 survey of employees at 237 participating companies, receiving completed surveys from 73,813 individuals. Each was asked to grade their organization's performance according to 24 distinct statements, ranging from "New ideas are encouraged at this company," to "It's easy to tell my boss the truth." In addition, all the employers were invited to complete a 12-question survey on workplace practices.

All of the participating employers were placed into one of three groups, based on size. Small workplaces were defined as those with 100 to 249 employees; midsize workplaces were defined as those with 250 to 999 employees; and large workplaces were those with 1,000 or more employees. All companies were then ranked within their size band.

"We believe our employees' positive feedback on the Globe survey shows MITRE's commitment to creating an excellent workplace environment," said Dr. Lisa Bender, MITRE Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. "We're honored to be named to the Globe's Top Places to Work list once again."

To qualify for the Boston Globe's Top Places to Work, a company must have more than 100 employees in Massachusetts. Rankings were composite scores calculated purely on the basis of employee responses.
